Measurement

Speed to lead

Also called: lead response time, first response time

Speed to lead is the elapsed time between a prospect making contact and your business making a real, personalised first response.

How it is measured

Speed to lead = timestamp of first human-or-AI reply − timestamp of enquiry, averaged across leads.

Assumptions and cited research behind this metric are listed on the methodology and sources page.

Why it matters

Contact odds fall sharply after the first hour, so response time is usually the single largest controllable variable in small-business conversion.

Worked example

A plumbing company averaged a 4-hour callback. Adding an automatic text within 60 seconds moved the average first response to under 2 minutes, and the same lead volume produced more booked calls without any extra advertising.

Figures are illustrative models with inputs stated, not audited client results.
