Measurement

Review velocity

Also called: review rate, review growth

Review velocity is how many new public reviews your business earns per month, and how consistently that rate holds over time.

How it is measured

Review velocity = new reviews in the period ÷ months in the period.

Assumptions and cited research behind this metric are listed on the methodology and sources page.

Why it matters

Local search rankings and buyer trust respond to a steady stream of recent reviews far more than to a large but stale total.

Worked example

A restaurant with 220 lifetime reviews but two in the last year looks dormant. Requesting a review after every completed order moves velocity to a consistent monthly figure that both customers and the local pack notice.

Figures are illustrative models with inputs stated, not audited client results.
