Webhook
A webhook is a message one application sends to another the moment an event happens, so the receiving system can act immediately instead of checking periodically.
Why it matters
Webhooks are what make sub-minute response times possible. Polling-based integrations check every few minutes, which is already too slow for lead response.

A phone system fires a webhook the instant a call ends unanswered; the automation reads the caller's number from it and sends the text-back within seconds.
